Any time you take a walk down the personal care isle at your favorite store you will most likely see a line of
Gillette products staring you in the face. Gillette has a history that extends over 100 years and they have adapted
to changes over the years to keep them as one of the top brands of personal care products. The one product I am
familiar with is their brand of razors.
You have seen the commercials about the latest Gillette fusion, Gillette
Venus, and probably some of their other lines. But what you don’t hear about is how they started and have
changed over the years. So let me take you back in time and explain how they have progressed.
It all started back in 1901 when King C. Gillette created the first safety razor that has disposable blades. By
1904 he had a patent for them and had sales in excess of 90 000 razors and millions of extra blades. Since that
time they have constantly worked on improving the razor handles and blades themselves.

In the mid 1950s they adjusted razors to handle beards of all types of thicknesses. This meant that the razor
itself was adjustable in three different settings. Over the next 20 years the handles were adapted to corrode less
and were made of much better materials.
A change in the razor industry was in the 1970s when Gillette introduced the first twin blade razor shaving
system. It was only a short time after that the triple blade razor was introduced.
Now we also have 4 blade razors, mp3 playing razors, vibrating razors, lubricating razors, and even five blade
razors that have blades on the bottom and top of the razor.
But as I mentioned before, Gillette has grown to much more than just razors and now have full lines of shaving
systems that include everything from razors and shaving foam to moisturizer and cooling lotions.
