For many men and women alike, electric shavers are a preferred choice for hair grooming. This is because it is less time-consuming and more convenient to use since it does not need the use of shaving creams, gels or any type of lather. Some men even shave while driving. There is a wide variety in the market to choose from. It is a matter of finding the right one that has the features that works best for you.

Electric shavers are either corded or cordless; powered by rechargeable batteries or electrical outlets. For corded razors, it is wise to get one that has a universal voltage for travel convenience. For rechargeable ones, the best choice would be those that recharge faster and have longer-lasting power.

There are two systems used in electric razors. The foil system uses oscillating cutters and metal bands that pull the hair to allow it to cut a longer length. It is also able to follow the contours of the face more closely. Although this is usually more expensive, it is more popular since it is said to result in a smoother and more even shave. The downside though is that it is both messier and noisier than the rotary system. It may also cause ingrown hairs and skin irritation.

The rotary system uses rotating circular blades. It is less messy since it has a shaving collection chamber underneath that needs to be cleaned out regularly. It is also quieter compared to the foil system. The downside to this type is that it results in a less even shave and is harder to navigate along facial contours. Aside from this, it is not advisable for those with thick beards and loose skin and poses a higher risk of cuts and razor burns.

Electric shavers have evolved with so many features mostly introduced by the most popular brands which include Braun, Remington, Philips and Panasonic shaver.

Just some of the high-tech features offered are the use of LCDs as indicators for battery and parts replacement, timers, comfort settings, lotion-dispensers, self-cleaning and lubricating system, self-sharpening blade, and even one that produces microvibrations that will supposedly both relax and stimulate the facial skin and muscles.

Of course there are the more common features of pop-up trimmers, waterproofing, slip-grip handles, cleaning tools, among others.

From the first electric razor invented in 1928 by the American, Col. Jacob Schick, electric razors have really gone a long way. What remains the same is that it still needs getting used to and it should be followed with the use of moisturizers to avoid irritated and dry skin.

Electric shavers come from as low as below $50 to as high as over $200. There are choices that are both affordable and of high quality. You just need to choose one that suits your needs.
