Shaving is something most people start having to deal with once puberty hits. Not everyone appreciates hair growth whether it is on their face, arms, legs, back, or other more sensitive areas. To combat this problem we can use a razor to remove the hair. But there is a problem that seems to bother most people. That problem is trying to choose a razor out of the many different razor brands.

Each brand of razor comes with its own line of razors which caters to men, women, and different skin types. To give you an idea, here are a few popular brands and a couple of examples of their lines to consider:

Gillette - Fusion, Venus, Mach, and Sensor
BIC - Single Blade, Comfort 3, Sensitive, and Metal Guard
Shick - Quattro, Personal Touch, Schick Extreme 3, and Tracer FX

There are also brands of electric razors by Panasonic, Remington, Philips, and others.

Each of the razor brands has their own specific positives and negatives and I hope that this website will help you make a more informed decision. But when it comes down to it, you might have to do a bit of trial and error because not all razors feel the same because we all have different skin types.

A little less than 100 years ago, there was only one type of razor to choose from. That razor was the straight razor. This is still used today but it is not a commonly used in developed countries since the birth of so many other types of razors. The last time I saw a straight razor was at a small barber shop own and operated by a single man in his 70’s. I asked him what he thought of the newer razors and he told me that there was nothing that compares to that of a straight razor. So I asked him for a shave and I have to admit that he was right. However, this is not as practical for most people who have never used one and it does pose a danger if you aren’t careful.

Before you look at the different razor brands in depth, I’d like to give you a few shaving tips that you can use no matter what type of razor you are using.

First, if you want to prevent your ingrown hairs then you should shave in the same direction that the hair is growing.

Second, lather your face using a shaving brush. This will help make your hairs stand on end so you can get a cleaner shave.

Third, always use a sharp razor. Using a dull razor will cause you to make multiple passes which will irritate your skin and cause problems.

And finally, you should keep your face clean and use an oil free moisturizer to help your face heal from the harshness of shaving.

Whether you are in search of an electric razor or regular wet shave razor, you should stick to the popular razor brands when possible. Some of the smaller brands can be a good choice, but often their quality is not exactly desired.
